General Properties of AISI 314 Stainless Steel:

AISI 314 Stainless Steel is an austenitic alloy designed for use in higher temperature corrosion resistance applications. With resistance to oxidation up to 2010°F under mild cyclic environments, this alloy features higher chromium and moderate nickel content, providing resistance to sulfidation and suitability for moderate carburizing environments. AISI 314 finds applications in concentric nitriding, oxidizing, thermal cycling, and cementing applications, though the maximum service temperature must be reduced. This alloy exhibits low magnetic permeability and lower toughness to -450°F, prone to sigma phase precipitation between 1202°F to 1742°F. The alloy’s solution annealing operation restores a degree of toughness. Both low and higher carbon versions are available, with the former used for ease in fabrication and the latter offering improved creep resistance.
